FEATURED GUILD MEMBER FOR NOVEMBER, COOKIE JENKINS

Cookie Jenkins has been weaving baskets for 2 years and  she has been a member of
the guild for about 1 ½ years.   Her grandmother wove round reed baskets and Cookie
always wanted to weave baskets but didn’t begin until she retired  4 years ago as a
financial Manager from the base.  Beth Scherer was her first basket teacher.   Cookie likes to
weave baskets with wooden bases and enjoys the challenge of weaving different
kinds of rims.

She and her husband, Mike have been married for 39 years.  The first 15 years, Mike was
in the Air Force and they traveled around the world.  On her travels, she bought baskets
and some of her favorite baskets are 2 baskets from the Philippines.

They have 2 daughters, a son in-law and a 6 year old grandson who loves her baskets.  Cookie has to hide her baskets when the grandson visits because he wants to take them home.  Cookie has taught him to make a basket.  They also with 2 poodles; Owen and devil dog, Coco.

Cookie designed her first basket and taught that basket at the September meeting.  She has also sold baskets at Arts and Crafts at Sharonville and at Heritage Days at Beavercreek.

Cookie  was born Katherine Alberta and her parents nicknamed her Cookie.  She also enjoys quilting and  also collects antique hatpins; “I had not realized that in their time they were the weapon of choice for women.”
