Notes from the May 4, 2009 meeting.

Christmas ornaments are needed for the Christmas Tree Raffle for Mid Summer Weave.  The tree is larger this year, so more ornaments are needed.  So far, I have received 3 ornaments.  I think a total of 50 ornaments would look really nice on the tree.  Remember, the raffle money from the tree goes to the Susan G. Komen fund for Breast Cancer.  So use that scrap reed and make a basket(s) to decorate the tree.  Please give your Christmas basket decoration(s) to Carol White at the June and July meetings.  The time is getting shorter and your talent is needed.

Fifty-eight people have registered for the 2009 Mid-Summer Weave in July.  If you are thinking about coming to MSW, send in your registration now!   Some classes do not meet the minimum number of students a teacher requires and we don’t want those teachers to cancel their classes.  DON’T WAIT, SIGN UP TODAY.  The registration form and brochure is found on the website or call Sally Meyer (937-291-3899) for a form.

Raffle items are still needed for Mid-Summer Weave.  Pam Feix will be at the June meeting to pick up your items.  Do you have any old basket patterns you do not want anymore?  Bring them to the June meeting .  They will be put in notebooks for the raffle.

Lorry Foucht is teaching a spice basket at the June meeting.

Sue Shulte  donated more reed to the guild.  She is a former weaver who now works full time and has given up weaving.  She found out about us form our website.

June 27th is weave in the park.  Jennie Dranschak is teaching.  Bring a dish to share, and your own drink.

We welcomed a guest weaver at the meeting, Mary Baker from Carlisle.  She was at Stateline in April and she heard about our guild from Julie Kleinrath who was teaching there.

DID YOU KNOW…………………?

Mikee’ Huber just got back from her 3 day FREE cruise to the Bahamas.  She had a great time and wished it were longer.

Elaine Puckett was in New York City with her son attending the Pet Seeger concert at Madison Square Garden.

Sally Meyer says send in your MSW registration today!

Sue Keferl needs 10 pair of old denim jeans for a project for MSW.   If you have a pair or two you want to donate, please bring them to the June meeting.

Lorry Foucht still wants help for kitchen duty at MSW.  If you can spare a couple of hours before or after a class, she would love to have your help.  Contact Lorry at   254-8375. Thank you.

Julie Kleinrath is teaching in Kentucky the first weekend in July.  She will be teaching 4 baskets there and teaching 6 baskets at Branson, MO.

Carolyn Belczyk went to Stateline in Richmond, In. and enjoyed making the Willow Pouch with Jo Campbell-Amsler.  She bought some willow cuttings and planted them in her yard.  Happy gardening, Carolyn.

Sue O’Neal went to Maui for two weeks to visit her aunt and uncle, and then went to NYC with a friend as a chaperone on a Senior Field trip.  She says she like NYC the best.

Carleen Dobie’s grandson’s school won the state championship in bowling.  Her grandson is a student at Kenton Ridge in Springfield, Oh.  He recently bowled a perfect 300 game. Her granddaughter was player of the year in the girls bowling division.  Her granddaughter is a junior at North Western HS in Springfield, Oh.  Carleen made a wedding Cake for her niece, and made prom corsages for a friend’s grandson.  She is now the director of the Women’s Bowling Association in Springfield, Oh.

Theresa Cornett is selling her basket “stuff” because she is not doing much weaving.  She has opened her own catering business called “Catering Creations with Flair”  She caters banquets, wedding parties, and other events.  Her grandson will graduate from high school at the end of this month and will go into the Army in June.  For his 18th birthday, she gave him his first airplane ride.

Jennie Dranschak's husband, Joe, thought she made beautiful baskets at Stateline.

Peggy West made a beautiful bracelet in a class with Sue Twombly.  Her bracelet is shades of blues, sterling silver and crystals.
Linda Seever has “stuff” to sale; display racks for $25 each, basket books, handles and other odds and ends.  Contact her for more information.

Beth Scherer went to the Vera Bradley Outlet Store Sale in Fort Wayne, In.  She saved 60% off the original prices.  She and her check out.  Her next adventure is to take a train from Fort Wayne to Chicago for a day and do some shopping.

Barb Schimming has retired again from WPAFB after working 7 months after her first retirement.  Will this be the last time?  You be the judge!  She shared a picture of her two new dogs.  Too Cute!

Sharon Dempsey went to stateline and finished a basket in class

Donna Douglass the mother-in law of
Karen Douglass passed away May 12, 2009 almost one month after the death of Karen's mother.  Please remember Karen and her family  in your thoughts and prayers during this sad time.

A LETTER TO ALL MEMBERS FROM PAM FEIX

Dear Members,
We are actively getting ready for Mid Summer Weave and this means that we need your help.  We will be having a raffle again this year, in order to keep registration costs down so that everyone can afford to participate.  We are asking that the members donate a Themed Basket or donate basketry related items.  We certainly appreciate your support in the cause and look forward to seeing you all at guild as well as at Mid Summer Weave.
Please contact Pam Feix to let her know what you will be donating. You can send the items to Pam at her home address:
            Pam Feix
           321 E. Somers St.
