NOTES FROM THE JUNE 1, 2009 MEETING

The secretary notes from May  were read and approved. Cindy Holland gave a treasure's report.  Julie Kleinrath reported that instructors Dianne Masi and Dory Maier classes (pine needle) for MSW were cancelled due to lack of students.  There are now a total of 9 instructors for Mid-Summer Weave July 24th & 25th.  Class confirmations have been sent out to students by Sally Meyer.   Note; it is still not too late to sign up for classes at  MSW.  There are 70 attendees signed up so far.  Ginger Lindamood will again furnish a first-aid kit  for MSW located in the women's restroom.   Pam Feix says if you have a completed raffle basket for the raffle table, you may bring this on the first day of MSW.  Margie Hayes and Sally Meyer volunteered to help set up for the MSW raffle.

Darlene Collins suggested making embroidered denim aprons to sell at MSW.  She had a sample of three embroidered baskets to show at the meeting that would be sewn on a pre-made apron.   It was decided to use the 3 basket embroidery design and also offer a choice of aprons with a simpler basket design which would be sold at a lower price.

Georgann Bates will teach a flower vase at the July 6, meeting.

Kathern Peters also known as "Wicker Woman" will be at the August guild meeting.  She will be the featured speaker and will have demonstrations..  It was decided to also invite the White Water Basket guild and the Cincinnati guild to the August meeting.  Ginger Lindamood will send out more information about this event.

Reminders will be sent out for Weave in the park on June 27th.
Click here for directions to Taylorsville Reserves at 8400 South Brown School Road.

The By-Laws were read and final revisions were made.

Basket ornaments are still needed for the Christmas tree that will be raffled at MSW.   A total of 6 ornaments have been donatated so far.  Profits from the Christmas tree raffle are donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

JULY 6, 2009 WEAVING PROJECT  "SMALL FLOWER VASE"
                                   TAUGHT BY GEORGANN BATES

We have a dandy project scheduled for next month's guild meeting ~ July 6, 2009.  The sample "basket" was at the meeting last night, along with the sign-up sheet.  If you missed the meeting and want to sign up for the class, please contact our teacher for July, Georgann Bates, via email at
Gbates@one.net or at her home phone number listed in our directory.  Here's some information about the project:

Project name:
Small Flower Vase
Cost of complete kit:    $12.00 (contains base, pattern, glass vase and all weaving materials required to complete the project)
Cost of a mini kit:        $7.50 (contains base, pattern, glass vase)

If you order a kit, Georgann will have the spokes glued into the base for us and it will be ready to weave.  She says it weaves up really quickly as it's an over 2, under 2 twill.  (Delightful to look at, too!)  For those of us who have not yet woven with the relatively new 3mm material, this will be a real treat!  Georgeann says it's really easy to work with and very pliable.

Once woven, the Small Flower Vase dimensions are approximately 7 1/2" tall by 3" diameter.  A lovely size for a small bouquet of flowers!

For those of you who wish to bring your own supplies, here is a list of materials required:

• 1 small glass vase
• 1 2" slotted base
• 3/16" flat oval for spokes (cut 21 @ 9" or the height of your vase plus a couple inches)
• 3 mm flat oval for weavers and lasher
• #4 round for rim filler
• 1/4" flat for rim row
• 3/8" flat oval for rim

Hope to see you all at the meeting on July 6.  If for some reason you order a kit and are unable to come to the meeting, please make sure you follow up with Georgann to get your kit.

Happy Weaving!

DID YOU KNOW.....???

Pam Feix's grandmother passed away. She and her grandmother were very close.   In addition, her husband fell and hit his head on a  trash can cutting his head which required many stitches.  Pam says to keep those raffle items coming for MSW.  She also thanks those Dayton guild members who supported the Stateline retreat. She  will be teaching 5 classes at the Bluegrass Area Basketmaker's Seminar in Jabez, Ky.  and then is teaching 4 classes at the KBA where Julie Kleinrath is also teaching.

Pat Stanley has 2 new grandchildren, a boy and a girl.  Congratulations to Pat and her husband Bob.  This makes a total of 7 grandchildren for the Stanley's.

Sally Meyer has sent out class conformations for MSW.  Please send the teachers checks to her by June 26.  She reminds us there are still openings if you want to sign up for a class.

Mikee' Huber had her storage shed put together by four of her friends.  Now she has a place to store her yard "stuff."

Georgann Bates is retiring at the end of this yea and is looking forward to more time for travel.  She and her husband just returned from a river cruise that sailed from  Prague to Budapest.

Kathy Spitler is going to Charlestown S.C. and will spend part of her time watching the locals weaving sweetgrass baskets.

Janet Picciano is getting married on August 15th.  Congratulations Janet!  She has been working on her gourds from last year, scraping and cleaning them.

Rhonda Crist hosted  a mini-highschool reunion with 6 of her friends over the Memorial Day weekend.  They had a great time together.  Her daughter is graduating from OSU and going into nursing.

Jennie Dranschak showed up at the June meeting with a few bruises on her side from falling out of bed!  Her husband heard the noise and said, "I've fallen and I can't get up.  Shall I call 811?"  Yes, he did say 811.

Julie Kleinrath is teaching at the State Kentucy Conference (KBA) in July.  She will be teaching 4 of her baskets.

Dian Meyer and her husband have been working very hard on their son's new house getting it ready so he can move in.

Glenna Holland had 10 tomato plants with their cages stolen from her garden.  Check those neighbors garage sales, Glenna!

Ginger Lindamood and her husband Marv has a great trip to Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, and the outer banks.  Where to next, Ginger?

I want to thank you all who sent cards, thoughts and prayers to me and my family over the last 3 months. So many of you have shared with me the loss of your loved ones and it's touched my heart! Thank you all for reaching out like you have during this painful time!
Karen Douglass and family.

Congratulations to
Linda Gettler who passed her nursing boards and is a Registered Nurse.

Libby Glade fell and sprained her wrist last Oct roller skating with her grandkids.  They finally did an MRI and found that a ligament had been torn.  She is having surgery on 18 June and will be in a cast for 6 to 8 weeks, so no weaving for Libby for a while.   We wish Libby a quick recovery.

Theresa Cornett's grandson, Eric Carter, just graduated from high school and has also joined the Army.  Theresa had a Farewell Party of Encouragement for Eric  on June the 14th.

Congratulations to
Shirley Robinson who just earned her GED.  Way to go, Shirley!

MSW will be here soon. It is not too late to sign up for classes. Come and join the fun.  We are in need of raffle items so clean out your closets and bring the unwanted baskets stuff to the meeting in July..

If you don’t have anything in your closets to donate. Fix up a basket with new stuff  an bring it in. The raffle is the only money maker for the guild. We are also in need of little basket ornaments  for the tree that we raffle off for breast cancer. The tree is a little bit bigger this year so we need more than last year.

Hope to see you at MSW

Darlene
                                         A LETTER FROM PAM FEIX

Hi everyone,

Just a friendly reminder that we are in need of raffle items for the Mid Summer Weave.  I won't be at any of the meetings between now and the weave, but if you will put your items together, so that they look real pretty, we can put them in the raffle.  You can do themed baskets as we have done in the past, or you can provide basketry related items.  Please bring them with you to the Mid Summer Weave.  If you can't be at the weave, please ask one of the committee if they can bring your item(s) for you.  We certainly appreciate all items donated.  I will be giving away 2
Speedway gas cards for the two raffle donations that receive the most raffle tickets in them.  For those of you who have already donated, thank you so much.
See you at Mid Summer Weave!!

Pam Feix
