| HERITAGE BASKETRY GUILD NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2010 |
| MEETING DATE: January 4, 6:30 - 9:00pm WEAVING PROJECT: REFRESHMENTS PROVIDED BY: Jennie Dranschak, Ginger Lindamood, & Beth Scherer |
| NOTES FROM THE DECEMBER 3, 2009 MEETING A motion was made and carried to add this paragraph to the by-laws . The paragraph is as follows; "The organization is organized exclusively for charitable, religous, educational or scientific purposes under sections 501 (C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code." The guild is applying for 501 (C)(3) status and including this paragraph into our by-laws is a requirement for that status. Thanks to Linda Seever and Cheri Mullins who have volunteered to be raffle co-chairs for Mid-Summer Weave 2010. Please help these ladies all you can to make their job easier. Barb Schimming, VP, reminds members to sign up for refreshments. The sign-up sheet will be on the small table next to the entrance to our meeting room. Julie Kleinrath is teaching the weaving project in January. Members voted on the meeting date in July and date of July 12, 2010 was chosen. Carleen Dobie suggested that everyone share their recipe for the dessert or appetizer they brought to the Christmas party. (If you would like to participate, send your recipe to me, Carol White, and I will publish your recipe in the newsletter) Bernie Jines said grace and the feast began. The lasagna. salad, and garlic bread was prepared by Lorry Foucht, and Barb McCoy. It was all so delicious and thanks to all who remembered to bring a can good for the Church food pantry. Darlene Collins was in charge of the gift exchange and we played the "mean" game with a twist to determine who got what basket. Dian Meyer and Glenna Howland provided the beautiful table decorations. The centerpieces were given away as door prizes. Thanks to all for making this a wonderful evening. A gift thank-you basket was presented to Karen Douglass(membership) and Carol White(secretary) for their past two year service as officers in the guild. |

| "Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right." Oprah Winfrey |
And let's us remember Sharon Dempsey who we lost in 2009. On June 26, 2009, Ohio lost a great basket weaver and friend, Sharon Dempsey. She was involved with so many different basket teachers and learning their techniques. Sharon was a regular attendee at many basket conventions and at the Gathering. Sharon was a charter member of the Heritage Basket Guild and was also a member of the Ohio Basket Weavers' Guild in Cincinnati. She was also a past member of a guild in Indiana. Sharon loved to say that she strived for perfection whenever she was weaving! She loved trying new things in the weaving world, such as working with silk and "gut." Besides basket weaving, she enjoyed beading and, in the past, doing ceramics and collecting giraffes. She absolutely loved those animals! Sharon always loved children, cowboys, horses and so enjoyed "the woods." Sharon will be missed by many! "Keep us in line, Sharon!" Bernie Jines Fairborn, OH |

| Heritage Ladies, we are going to start the New Year off just right by weaving Julie Kleinraths Dresser Basket. It is a stunning little basket, sitting atop its wooden base and ball feet. And topped off with two ceramic handles on either end of the basket. Julie calls it a Dresser Basket, but it would be just the dandiest little recipe card holder, too!
Here are the particulars of the basket: Size: 7 wide x 5 deep x 5 high Color choices for ceramic handles: Blue, green or mauve (these are speckled-type ceramics - Spongeware) Cost of complete kit: $25.00 If you prefer to bring your own materials, here is what youll need: 1 ea. 3 x 6 Oval Wood Base 1 ea.
