Guild Meeting Minutes for 9 Jan 2012:

First and foremost, our President, Barb Schimming wanted to thank all those who volunteered and planned our successful 2011 Christmas Party.  All those who attended thoroughly enjoyed!

There are approximately 27 memberships for 2012, please contact Debbie Martin if you have not yet signed-up/paid.  The guild had two guests for January's meeting, Pam Bailey and Pam Gorder, both have never woven before, we welcome you and happy weaving!

Darlene won the raffle for January which was two coils of reed donated by Ginger.  Bernie will donate the raffle for February's meeting.

We are looking for a volunteer to take over the duties from Ginger to be our new wholesale purchase contact, if you are interested, please contact Barb.

Linda Seever reports that the MSW brochure is in the works and plans are for it to be published by 1 Mar 2012.  The theme for 2012's MSW will be "Continuing Our Basket Odyssey".

Keep Dottie Dornbusch in your thoughts as for she is recovering from surgery in a rehab facility at least until mid January.

Barb would like to pass along a website which provides a daily basketry tip:
http://basketmakers.com/a/daily/dailytip.htm.

Cheri Mullins made this beautiful beaded animal bracelet.
Darlene made this beautiful Japanese quilt for her daughter.  The squares are fabric pieces from her daughter got in Japan and the quilt backing is  pictures of cranes which are a symbol of good luck.
Member of the month:  Cindy Holland

Cindy has been weaving baskets since 1997 and has been a member of the Heritage
guild since 2000 and she has been treasurer for the guild since almost that long.
Cindy learned to weave when she took a class with Julie Kleinrath at the
Miamisburg Library.  She made a little birdhouse basket and has been hooked ever
since.  She met former guild president, Michelle Maloney, who got her interested i
n joining the guild.

Her favorite kinds of baskets to weave are twill baskets with flat reed.
She shares her home with husband Tony and a dog named, Elvis.  She has two children
and three grandchildren.  Some of you know she is a huge Elvis fan and has a room
devoted to Elvis memorabilia.  She has even taken Elvis cruises.    She often goes to
Memphis, Tenn.  to visit Graceland and eat in Beale St.

Cindy has worked in hospital accounting since 1986 and has been a CPA since 2000.  She has worked at St. Elizabeth’s, Greene Memorial and is currently at Clinton Memorial hospital.

Cindy likes to give her baskets away as presents and each year, her co-workers get one of her baskets as a Christmas gift.

Cindy thinks people would be surprised to learn she started out her working career at K-Mart making subs in the deli and she also taught Sunday school with Elaine Puckett.  They taught  middle-school aged children and had some interesting experiences.  Ask them!

The purpose of the "Member of the Month" Column is  to get to know each other a little better.  Featured members are randomly selected by the newsletter editor on the night of the Guild meeting.  If you would like to be featured in the March newsletter, contact Carol White at carolwhite43@woh.rr.com and I can make your dream come true otherwise, I will  just toss a coin or spin the wheel.

WHITE CHICKEN CHILI   served at the January meeting.

Got this recipe from a young couple that makes their own salsa.  We’ve enjoyed it several times and it’s great on some cold, rainy winter evening.

1 12.5-oz. can chicken breast, with liquid
1 48-oz. jar Great Northern white beans, with liquid
1 16-oz. jar salsa (we prefer hot but you can adjust to fit your family’s preferences)
1 12-oz. can chicken broth
1 T. cumin
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

And, if desired:
½ t. Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning (will give the dish a little zip)

Place all ingredients in a large kettle.  Heat on medium until cheese is melted.  Then, reduce heat and simmer for about 3 hours; this will ensure that the beans are tender.

Serve with crushed tortilla chips on top and enjoy!  Goes great with a nice, cold margarita!

March Project:  I continue to look for volunteers to teach a project.  I have not been able to line up one for March.  If you have even a beginner’s basket you could teach we have several new members that would learn from your experience.  Please think about teaching a basket or project; it is fun to see the thrill and excitement from our members as their projects bloom!
