HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE JULY 2011 MEETING.
Our thanks to Julie Kleinrath who taught " Bushel Basket with Pottery Handles and left she in her truck  the next morning to move to Colorado.  We wish Julie a safe journey and best of luck in her next business adventure in her new store!
Julie sells her basket kits and gets help from Lorry.
The spokes were put in first on the wood base.
Next, the sides were woven.  There wasn't time to finish the basket during meeting time, so we all had "homework" to do.
Bushel Basket with Pottery Handles.
Cookie has been experimenting weaving around different  plastic liners to create a basket.  She is holding one of her creations.
Barb S. is making kits with pony beads for children.  Each kit contains a pattern, beads & a strand of weaving ribbon to make an animal key chain.  She had lots of help from guild members.
AUGUST WEAVING PROJECT

The basket being taught is called "Sweetie"  designed  by Candace Katz and taught by Linda Seever & Cheri Mullins.
It is now a free pattern on the internet but we thought  it was cute and small and great for Guild.

Supplies:  2" slotted square base
#2 RR or #3 RR for spokes
#2 RR or #3 RR for weavers  (either do the entire basket in #2 or #3)
60 8mm wood beads

cut 24 spokes for RR @ 6"

Kits will be $15.00.  This will be for entire kit and pattern.
I know we announced $12.00 but the beads became very hard to find.

Our church, Lord of Life Lutheran Church in West Chester, OH is going on a mission trip with Vicar Bob (our intern pastor) to South Dakota to do repairs on the Pastor’s house.  We will be putting shingles on the roof, replacing the storm door, and painting the entire outside of the house.  There are other smaller tasks like eave troughs, down spouts, flashing and soffits.  We will also be meeting with potentially 60  kids, decorating puppets, performing some Christian puppet skits at dinner, making wallpaper lizards, making pony bead critters to “Take Care of God’s Creatures”, and performing a flannelgraph enactment of the Creation Story at another dinner, along with paper Creation flowers.  We will be driving from home, leaving Friday, July 22, and arriving late Saturday, July 23.  We will be there until Friday, July 29, hopefully to arrive home late Saturday July 30.....Barb Schimming

Following are the suggestions that were handed in regarding Mid-Summer Weave.  These are not in any particular order.
1.        Wasn’t impressed with selection of baskets to choose from.
2.       Too similar baskets as other weaves.
3.       Need to have Flyers, etc at Stateline.
4.       Wasn’t variety to choose from.
5.       Need to send post card reminders to attendants from previous years.
6.       Perhaps make it less expensive.
7.       Use more of our excellent Ohio teachers or guild members to keep cost down.
8.       Give guild members more of a discount.
9.       Have a more simple lunch or give option that doesn’t include lunch.
